How our La Cala de Mijas plant works
The Reciclados Mijas plant has two main waste recycling areas: the construction and demolition waste recovery area and the green waste treatment area.
C&D treatment starts when trucks enter the plant, where the waste is checked and classified. The process begins in a reception hopper with pre-screening to remove the fine fraction; a jaw crusher reduces the stony waste and an electromagnet separates ferrous metals. In the sorting cabin, materials foreign to C&D waste (paper, wood, cardboard, plastic…) are removed, and a secondary mill and final screen classify the now-marketable products.
The process includes auxiliary machinery to improve the quality of the recycled aggregate, with production control monitoring and testing in a certified laboratory to obtain the CE marking.
Concrete line
Waste consisting solely of concrete is recovered and processed to obtain different recycled aggregates.
Concrete macadam
Discontinuous grading with sandy binder, for building paths, agricultural tracks, road bases and pavements.
Artificial concrete sub-base
Continuous grading between 0 and 32 mm, as a base layer for roads, pavements and non-structural concrete.
Concrete gravel
Used as trench fill and for drainage.
Concrete sand
Grading below 1 mm, obtained by screening concrete: soil fill, mortars, paths and pipe bedding.
C&D line
Dedicated to the recovery and recycling of mixed construction and demolition waste.
C&D macadam
Coarse aggregate of various sizes from construction and demolition waste, mainly used for building tracks.
Natural C&D sub-base
Continuous grading from 0 to 32 mm for fills, rural tracks and granular road layers.
C&D gravel
Used as trench fill and for drainage.
C&D sand
Grading below 1 mm, obtained by screening C&D waste.
Green waste treatment
Green waste is first shredded and cleaned of any foreign materials. The shredded material then follows two lines depending on its final use.
Use as biomass
We deliver shredded green material to authorised managers for use as biomass: a large share of green waste goes to this purpose, generating renewable energy.
Composting
The rest goes through a composting process of around 6 months with thorough parameter control. Once composted, it is screened to achieve the ideal grading for use as fertiliser.
It is used as an organic soil improver for trees, seedbeds, orchards, intensive crops, nurseries, planters and turf top-dressing in gardens and golf courses. It improves moisture retention, slows erosion and revitalises compacted soils.
Respect for our surroundings
The plant is close to a residential development and a golf course, so we apply dust-control measures: misting sprinklers throughout the facility, watering of tracks and work areas, covered conveyor belts and vegetation screens. Monitoring sensors guarantee compliance with the values set by law.
We also maintain a strict health, safety and risk-prevention policy at every level of the organisation.
